The challenge

What made this project demanding

A working hospital cannot be evacuated like an office. Patients in theatre, intensive care or recovery cannot simply walk out, so the life-safety strategy has to buy time and protect in place — while the building stays operational throughout installation.

What we delivered

Detection tuned to a clinical environment

Hospitals generate false alarms: steam from sterilisation, aerosols in treatment rooms, dust during maintenance. A system that cries wolf gets ignored or disabled, which is worse than no system at all. Detector types and siting were selected per area so that sensitivity matches what actually happens in that room.

Evacuation that matches how hospitals work

Rather than one alarm for the whole building, the system is zoned so an incident alerts staff in the affected area first, and adjacent zones are prepared before anyone is moved. This supports the horizontal, staff-led evacuation strategy hospitals actually use.

Protecting what keeps the hospital running

Server rooms, switch rooms and records storage were protected with clean agent rather than water. In a hospital, losing patient records or the network to sprinkler discharge causes its own kind of harm.

Escape routes that stay lit

Central-battery emergency lighting covers escape routes and critical clinical areas, so a mains failure during an incident does not leave staff moving patients in the dark.

Outcome

A phased detection and evacuation system that supports staged, staff-led evacuation rather than a single building-wide alarm, with clean-agent protection over the areas where water would take critical systems offline.
